This program is not an end to writing growth. In fact, it’s intended to be a new beginning! This program will be the engine that powers your writing instruction all year long—and beyond. You will be teaching writing to students who can really write!
Or, to put it another way, imagine looking at a cat, first from the front, and then from the side. In two dimensions, these shapes are very different. But look at a living, breathing, three-dimensional cat, and the shapes of its different parts make sense.
You may not need every single page, resource, and pattern in order to achieve writing success, but you will have the resources available. This is a complete writing program where all the gaps have been filled.
Let’s not forget 8rd grade. On state writing assessments, most high-scoring 8rd grade writing is presented in wonderfully organized paragraph form. Both the style of academic writing and its subtypes specific for every kind of essay have certain peculiarities that are often lost by the students who just begin writing essays. Once you have listed similarities and differences, decide whether the similarities on the whole outweigh the differences or vice versa. Create a thesis statement that reflects their relative weights. A more complex thesis will usually include both similarities and differences. Here are examples of the two main cases:
